There is a reason why the most common and most expensive renovation projects are kitchens and bathrooms.
Not only are they the rooms that get the most use, they are also often the most noticeable rooms in a home while setting the tone for the rest of the space.
Our team recently modernized a dated bathroom in a house in Île-Perrot, Quebec, a suburb just west of Montreal, and the resulting transformation was absolutely incredible.
From upgrading the plumbing and electrical systems, to installing custom shower glass, this bathroom renovation was an extensive undertaking that required precision, skill, and creativity.
Keep reading to see the details of how we completely transformed our client’s outdated bathroom into a beautiful modern space.
Overview
Bathrooms have always been an integral part of any household, but they’re often overlooked when it comes to design and functionality. An outdated bathroom not only lacks many modern comforts, it also affects the look and feel of the entire home. Not only does a modern bathroom add functionality and comfort, but it will also elevate the look and feel of the home, while also increasing the eventual resale value.
The goal of our recent bathroom renovation project in Île-Perrot, Montreal was to add functionality and comfort, while elevating the look and feel of the entire home. It’s also worth noting bathroom renovations also increase the eventual resale value of the home, and have the second highest ROI of all home renovation projects, second only to kitchen renovations.
The original bathroom was cramped, outdated, and lacked personality. Our job was to change that.
Our team transformed the old, drab bathroom into a luxurious oasis that exudes modern style, functionality and comfort.
We knew this project would require a lot of time and effort, but as you’ll see our team was ready for the challenge.
Heated Tile Floors: Cozy and Inviting
In terms of adding comfort and luxury to a bathroom, there’s nothing quite like stepping out of a hot shower or bath onto a heated tile floor.
Since the goal of this bathroom renovation was modernization and luxury, a heated tile floor was a must.
When it came to choosing the right materials for this bathroom renovation project we went with the best of the best.
We opted for the Schluter Heated Flooring system with the Ditra heat membrane and thermostat to greatly increase the comfort of the homeowners during the chilly Montreal weather and to give the bathroom a much more overall cozy and warm feel.
Stepping out of a warm shower or bath onto a cold tile floor is a thing of the past for these homeowners.
Lastly, we finished the floor with a beautiful plush black bath mat for comfort and to soak up the excess water when getting out of the tub.

Updated Plumbing and Electrical Systems: Modernizing the Basics
Of course, no bathroom renovation is complete without plumbing and electrical upgrades! Since this was a full bathroom reno, it was the perfect time to take care of the systems behind the walls.
We replaced all of the plumbing and made some necessary repairs to ensure that the system was working properly.
We also added a hot water line for the toilet, which allowed us to install a bidet seat. Trust us, this is one of the best investments you can make for your bathroom!
In terms of electrical upgrades, we updated the system and added some energy-efficient, dimmable LED lighting.
Lastly, we also installed a quiet vent fan with a timer, perfect for those who like to linger in the shower.

Cabinet and Storage: Elegance Meets Convenience
When it came to the cabinets, we wanted them too to be both functional and stylish.
We decided to go with all-new matching white cabinetry that is not only sleek and stylish, but also efficient in terms of storage and organization.
One of the most exciting features of the new cabinets was the stand-alone makeup station.
We wanted to create a space where our client could sit and apply makeup, or style her hair comfortably in the morning or before a night out on the town.
We included organizational accessories within the cabinet to hold the client’s beauty appliances such as hairdryers and straighteners.
We also added a flip-down table for added convenience, and a padded bench that stores away underneath when not in use.

Walk-in Shower with Custom Glass: A Statement That Elevates the Room
One of our favorite features in this bathroom renovation was the custom shower glass with a hinged door.
We wanted to create a seamless and elegant finish for the walk-in shower, and this gorgeous custom glass was the perfect solution.
Plus, depending on personal preference, the shower can also be used without any glass thanks to its well thought out design.
It’s all about options!
In addition to wanting to make sure the shower was stylish we wanted it to be comfortable and convenient as well as comfortable. We used the Schluter sloped curbless shower pan with line drain, the Schluter wall niche, and Schluter curdy tile backer board for the shower walls with waterproofing joints.
This system not only provides a sleek look, but the advanced technology also ensures that water stays where it belongs.
Lastly, we finished the gorgeous new shower with mosaic tile accents from Italnord.
This product was a standout for us, not only because of its stunning design, but also because it is also incredibly durable and easy to maintain.
We used it for the shower walls and throughout the bathroom to tie the whole space together and add some texture and contrast to the room.
It’s amazing how one small detail can make such a big impact.

Freestanding Soaker Bathtub: A Touch of Decadence
Last, but certainly not least, we added a gorgeous freestanding soaker bathtub with a floor-mount faucet and hand wand.
The bathtub adds even more comfort to the bathroom, for times when a shower is simply not enough.
The standalone bathtub adds a touch of elegance while also adding functionality and comfort.
This was the perfect finishing touch to the space, and it really added an extra touch of luxury.
